QUEEN'S 'WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS' VOTED WORLD'S FAVE SONG ( Queen)

Queen's classic song 'We Are The Champions' has been voted the world's favourite song.

The track by the legendary British rockers, fronted by late singer Freddie Mercury, topped a global poll of 700,000 music fans to find the globe's most loved song.

The song, released in 1977, beat off stiff competition from a host of popular compositions from some of the most successful artists of all time.

Britney Spears' 'Toxic' came second, Michael Jackson's classic song 'Billie Jean finished in second place, while The Eagles' 'Hotel California' and recent hit 'La Tortura' by Latin singer Shakira made up the rest of the top five.

Other songs to make the top ten, included 'Yesterday' by The Beatles, U2's 'One', John Lennon's popular hit 'Imagine' and Nirvana's grunge classic 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'.

The poll was conducted by electronic giants Sony Ericsson to launch its new Walkman mobile phone.

The company's corporate vice president Dee Dutta claimed Queen's victory was not unexpected because 'We Are The Champions' is a universal anthem.

Dee said: "'We Are The Champions' is an anthem worldwide both in music and sporting arenas. It conveys the passion music brings to our lives and proves a classic rock song is truly timeless."
