Rod Stewart was celebrating last night after fiance Penny Lancaster gave birth to a baby boy on Sunday (27.11.05).

The rocker was by the model's side as she delivered the tot in a birthing pool at London's private St John and St Elizabeth Hospital - and even waded in to the water to help.

The thrilled couple said they are overjoyed at the arrival of their first child together, who weighed 7lb 7oz.

The 60-year-old star - who has six other children - said: "Both Penny and our baby son are gorgeous, healthy and doing well."

"I am so very proud of my girl Pen for the commitment, courage and strength she showed throughout. We are celebrating every moment with our beautiful boy, we can't take our eyes off him."

Blonde Penny added: "It means so much to Rod and I that we were able to keep to our birthing plan and have our baby naturally. "It was the most empowering and spiritual experience of my life."

Last month the couple revealed they were thinking of calling their baby Jimmy or Charlie if it was a boy. They also said the baby's middle name would be Wallace, after Penny's grandfather who died in a car accident.
