Drug and alcohol addiction and abuse appear to be reasons for a divorce filing by comedic actor Bill Murray’s wife.

Wife of comedic actor Bill Murray has filed for divorce after 11 years, claiming Murray had abusive behavior, and drug and alcohol addictions, according to eFluxMedia. According to legal papers filed by Murray’s wife in Charleston County, SC (accessed by Charleston.net) the couple had four children during the course of their marriage, but have been “living separate lives for over a year.” The documents specified that in 2006 Jennifer Butler Murray “moved with her children to Sullivan’s Islands, South Carolina, due to defendant’s adultery, addiction to marijuana and alcohol, abusive behavior, physical abuse, sexual addictions, and frequent abandonment.” The complaint also specified the times of abandonment were when Murray, “travels overseas where he engages in public and private altercations and sexual liaisons,” all according to eFluxMedia.

Murray’s wife is requesting sole custody of their four children, from ages 7 to 15, and once the divorce is finalized, eFlux reported Murray must pay Jennifer $7 million within 60 days. Murray’s lawyer stated, “Bill Murray is deeply saddened by the breakup of his marriage. He and his wife are loving parents and they are committed to the best interests of their children and Mr. Murray has asked that the public respects his privacy at this difficult time.”
