Sharon Stone Pulled from Dior Advertisements (Sharon Stone) Dior released a statement Thursday stating they would no longer use Stone in advertisements after her offensive comment.
French fashion dynasty Christian Dior announced Thursday that it has dropped American actress Sharon Stone from its advertising representatives after her offensive comment against the Chinese. The global company felt the pressure to drop the actress after she verbally suggested that the recent earthquakes in China may have been “bad karma” for the way Beijing treated Tibet.
In fact, many companies feel obligated to disassociate with Stone in fear of her recent negative attention affecting their sales or even causing a boycott of their product. “They had no choice” but to drop her from China, said Tom Bernardin, the chairman and chief executive of the advertising agency Leo Burnett Worldwide. “Obviously, she crossed the line,” as reported by nytimes.com.
Dior’s Shanghai office released a statement Thursday promising to put a halt to all of their advertisements in China that included Stone. The statement identified Stone’s comment as “hurtful.” The company spokesperson in Paris sympathized with the Chinese and stated, “We also said we shared the pain of the Chinese people and earthquake victims in Sichuan.”
