Anne Meara (born September 20, 1929) is an American comedienne and actress. She was born in New York City, into a family of Irish Catholic extraction and raised accordingly, although she would later convert to Judaism, the religion of her husband of many years, actor Jerry Stiller; she and Jerry are the parents of the actor Ben Stiller and the actress Amy Stiller. She also appeared as the grandmother in the TV series ALF.
