One of the world’s most recognizable supermodels, Claudia Schiffer gathered fame
and worldwide recognition as the model for the Guess jeans advertising campaign
during the early 1990s. Schiffer’s supermodel status further solidified with her
appearances on over 500 magazine covers, including Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue,
Cosmopolitan and Vanity Fair, among others. The German beauty is also well-known
for being an international spokesmodel for such renowned cosmetics companies as
Revlon and L'Oreal.
Off screen, and often considered one of People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful
People in the World” (1991, 1992), Schiffer co-owns a chain of Fashion Cafe
restaurants with fellow supermodels Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and Elle
Macpherson.
She also became a spokeswoman for breast cancer awareness and volunteers for
UNICEF. As for her romantic life, the wife of producer Matthew Vaughn was once
known for her relationship with long-term fiancé, magician David Copperfield.
After the couple separated in 1999, she briefly was engaged to playboy Tim
Jeffries, but she broke off the engagement in 2000 to begin a new relationship
with Matthew Vaughn.

In Rheinberg, Germany, Claudia Schiffer was born on August 25, 1970. Alongside
her three younger siblings, Ann Carolin, Stefan and Andreas, Claudia was reared
in Dusseldorf, Germany, by her lawyer father, Heinz Schiffer, and her homemaker
mother, Gudrun Schiffer. Inspired by the successful career of her dad, young
Claudia dreamed of becoming a professional attorney. At age 17, however, while
spending the night with friend in a local nightclub, she was discovered by a
modeling agent.

Claudia married producer Matthew Vaughn on May 25, 2002, following their
one-year engagement. Claudia and her husband share two children, a son named
Caspar Matthew De Vere Drummond (born on January 30, 2003) and a daughter named

Career:
German-born Claudia Schiffer began her modeling career at the age of 17 after
being spotted by agent Michel Levaton. Originally wishing to pursue a law
career, Schiffer subsequently threw away her childhood dreams and flew off to
the fashion city of Paris for her first test shoot. Schiffer’s beauty soon
landed the young girl her first modeling gig for the popular Elle magazine.
Following the cover shot, Europe magazines began taking notice of the model.
Two years after her debut appearance, Schiffer received her big break when she
signed a contract to star in a Guess jeans ad in North America. After gaining
popularity as a new Guess girl, Schiffer was also seen on the cover of several
magazines, both in The United States and Europe.
Schiffer’s career skyrocketed. Modeling contracts and appearances in magazines
quickly ensued. She appeared on hundreds of magazine covers, including ones for
Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, Cosmopolitan and Vanity Fair. Schiffer also posed for
print ads for Chanel, Gianni Versace, and the clothing company Iceberg. Her
accomplishments launched Schiffer’s status to one of the top five supermodels in
the modeling industry.
Schiffer further cemented her position as a supermodel after signing a four-year
deal with Revlon cosmetics, worth 6 million dollars. After her duties with
Revlon ended, she signed another prestigious, long-term contact, this time with
L'Oreal. Schiffer became their ambassador and international spokesperson.
Aside from her modeling career, Schiffer also broke into acting and has made a
number of appearances in movies and television. She landed her first film role
in 1994 as an aerobic instructor in Richie Rich (1994). This was followed by
another small role in The Blackout, three years later. After Desperate But Not
Serious (1999), Schiffer picked up a larger role in the romantic comedy Friends
& Lovers (1999) and gained real notice as an actress with James Toback’s Black
and White (1999), which starred Scott Caan and Robert Downey Jr. In the new
millennium, Schiffer went on to take roles in such films as Life Without Dick
(2001), In Pursuit (2001) and Love Actually (2003). On the small screen,
Schiffer guest starred in two episodes of “Dharma & Greg” and was seen in an
episode of “Arrested Development.” She has also made guest appearances in
television shows such as Larry King Live, The Tonight Show, The Late Show with
David Letterman, and Late Night with Conan O'Brien.
