George Michael Banned From Roads

06/10/2007
A London judge sentenced aging pop star George Michael to 100 hours of community service and a two-year ban on driving. This must have made the former Wham crooner's day considering he faced jail time for his offense.

Michael pleaded guilty last month to driving while unfit after police found h is car stopped at a traffic light in North London – Michael's limp body slumped over the wheel in a sweaty, drooling heap of a mess.

Blood tests showed that the singer had a cocktail of drugs in his system including a sleeping pills, an antidepressant, marijuana and GHB, an illegal "party" drug.

The UK's Daily Mail reports that the singer came out of the courtroom and refused to answer questions. He posed for some photographs and then read a short statement aloud.

He called the media's coverage of his trial absurd and said he accepted responsibility for being guilty due to "tiredness" and his addiction to prescription drugs. Interesting. He added that he was glad the trial was finally over and was now off "to play the biggest show of my life at Wembley".

Michael's lawyer also told the paper his client would be hit hard by a driving ban because "he is not somebody, for obvious security reasons, who can use public transport." Clearly this lawyer is either unaware of his clients massive fortune or has never heard of a chauffeur.
