A native of St. Louis, Karyn Kusama is a graduate of the film program at New York
University's Tisch School of the Arts. Her thesis film, "Sleeping Beauties," won a Mobil award in 1991. "Girlfight (2000)" is her first feature film.

Kusama is working on what she calls a "bio-fiction thriller" which she also plans to
direct. She is currently finishing the screenplay with co-writer Christopher Peroni.
