Ralph Nathaniel Fiennes (born December 22, 1962) is a British actor. Born in Suffolk, he is the older brother of actor Joseph Fiennes. Having trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1988. He is the only actor ever to have won a Tony Award for playing Hamlet on Broadway. In 2001 Fiennes received the William Shakespeare Award from the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington.

Fiennes' film debut was in 1992, when he played Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights opposite Juliette Binoche. But it was in the following year that he became known internationally, portraying Amon Goeth, the amoral Nazi concentration camp commander in Schindler's List, for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. In 1994 he portrayed New England aristocrat Charles Van Doren in Quiz Show, and in 1996 he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for The English Patient.

Fiennes' career has gone from horror (Red Dragon) to animated Biblical epic (Prince of Egypt) to campy nostalgia (The Avengers) to romantic comedy (Maid in Manhattan).

He married actress Alex Kingston in 1993, but they divorced in 1997. In 1995 he started dating Francesca Annis, his co-star in Hamlet.

In 2004 Fiennes was cast to play evil Lord Voldemort in the fourth movie of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, due to be released on November 2005.
