Biography of Sharon Case

They say third time's the charm, a cliché that has worked out well for Sharon Case. After short stints on GENERAL HOSPITAL, AS THE WORLD TURNS and VALLEY OF THE DOLLS, Case was cast as the third Sharon Collins Newman, a role she's held since 1994.

A Detroit native, Case focused on ballet and jazz in her childhood. While still in grammar school, her family moved to Los Angeles, where the aspiring dancer was discovered at a local modeling event. She was offered a job in Japan at the age of 17 and spent five months working there before returning to L.A., where she took acting lessons. In 1989, she landed the recast role of Dawn Winthrop, Monica's lost daughter on GH, but was let go after a year. Not long after, she moved to New York and took the short-lived role of Debbie Simon on ATWT.

The move to New York was a new start for Case. She had married her high-school sweetheart at 18, but was divorced two years later. Moving across the country gave her a fresh outlook on her life, personally and career-wise.

By the time Case was cast on Y&R, two other actresses had already played Sharon within the span of four months.

While Case thought she'd only be on Y&R for six months at most, she has been in Genoa City for a decade, tackling such dramatic tales as rape and the death of daughter Cassie. Sharon Case has truly made the role of Sharon her own.
