I still play but for some reason, I am having so much fun playing guitar and singing that I don't really miss it because I've done it for so long like twenty-something years with Motley.
I'm happy doing what I'm doing, and if you have that kind of attitude then everything else from there on is a bonus.
When they're at the concert, very few of those people are going to be standing there, sober, watching your show.
That's the good part of having my past follow me, is that sometimes some of that stuff can help.
The record is definitely a musical journey. It's kind of all over the place, which I like.
You never know what's going to happen sometimes, or what you think's going to happen never happens, or when you least expect it, the Santana record comes along and just blows up.
Whenever I write, I only write about what I know or what I have experienced or feeling.
I wrote it about a friend of mine who married his high school sweet heart. They had a baby together and one day, when the baby was about four months old, my friends wife was driving down the road by herself, pulled over to the side and she just died in her car.
The Methods record went gold in America, Japan, Canada.
It sounds kind of strange, but Jail time was almost a good experience for me.
I don't really put too much emphasis on what somebody else might think of it. Otherwise your putting limits on yourself.

Sometimes when you cut your bed tracks right off the bat, you don't really know where the vocal is landing and where the background vocals are, and other loops and stuff that are going on.
Hey, did I tell you that I have a new solo record that just came out two days ago, called Tommyland: The Ride?
Basically your fish out of water story, a rock star goes to college in Middle America, in Lincoln Nebraska. We basically bum rushed the university, and people were like no way, that's Tommy Lee.
Also when I write, I try to write about stuff that everyone gets.
There's Tommy, Tommy Lee the rock star, and Tommy the dad. I'm wearing several hats these days.
I also did some jail time a few years ago. Spent a whole summer in jail reading books. I pumped a ton of new knowledge and new thinking into myself.
The Radiohead record, The Bends is my all-time favorite record on the planet.
What I wanna do with Methods is keep that around as sorta my freak out, creative free for all- anything goes project.
Everyone's having a blast on tour. I think we're actually having more fun now than we ever had.

Nah, I loved the name Methods of Mayhem and I wanna do - I'm gonna do another one of those records.
I guess I got my feet wet, doing this with Methods Of Mayhem, which was kind of cool.

I have done some things in my past that I have been ashamed of... that's pretty much what that is about.
But you know what I'm trying to say, it's that there's a couple of really dangerous drugs out there and I've lost some friends to them.
You know what, I just write what I feel.
Whether it's crazy, fun stuff or bad- my life has been really fun and really exciting definitely never been dull.
I find that doing the drums last, coming from a drum history, really works well for me.
I lived up on Kanan and Mulholland. It's a bit of a drive, but once you get there, the horses, vineyards, it's just so peaceful.
When I got home from The Ozzfest in September 2000 with Methods... I just locked myself in my house and I started writing.
Imagine how frustrating it is, being completely locked up and watching your family leave, your wife and children, and not being able to do anything about it.
Then the Motley Crue reunion tour that I'm currently doing is sold out everywhere.
If it's successful and it sounds awesome, and looks killer live, then I guess I can pat myself on the back and take all the credit too.

I was just reading some poetry, and it talked about how things start as one thing and change into another, and I just thought, what a great concept for a song.

I read about 35, 40 books on spiritual stuff, relationship stuff and parenting books.
The main thing, I guess, is to be really very compassionate with everyone.

When I was a little kid, I took tap and ballet. I've always loved to dance. I'm a rhythm machine.
We had toga parties. You name it we did it.
Once the song is done and recorded, I like to go back and then cut the drums, because then I know exactly what the song needs, and what it doesn't need.

I think that when I did the Methods Of Mayhem record, some of the hip-hop stuff probably freaked a lot of Motley Crue fans out.
The only thing that's changed for me is that I've figured out a new way to do this; when I go to record, I like to do the drums last, if that makes any sense to you.
I think in the last year or so I've gotten good at not letting it bother me, just doing what I do, and not thinking about everybody else so much.
Tilo and I cooked vittles together when he was living with me. We made the bomb chicken with meat, potatoes, carrots and rosemary all inside a crock pot, and let that marinate.

I got a temporary place in Hollywood cause I was out here recording so much and also I've been gone on tour since February with Motley.
I was married to Heather for 7 years, Pamela 5. Lot of years of marriage, I am just enjoying just trippin out by myself.
I just write... if it's really good, it's going on the record. If it's average, it's going in the trash.
Nikki lives around the corner from me and I see him all the time. We talk a lot, and of course we're still friends. That was our baby, Motley Crue, we put that band together.
In the back of my mind, I know I have to pick up my boys in the morning.
It's all about the music. For me, that's truly what I live for. Just music constantly. Always listening to, writing, or playing music. That's definitely me.
You have all of those dad moments where you're so pumped to watch your son run down the lane and shoot the basketball... and the little guy swishes it.
